There are only two things you need to do if you want to set up your smart 404 page! Create a ruleset and a fallback! Follow this step-by-step tutorial to get your smart 404 page going!
Create a ruleset
A ruleset is a combination of multiple rules and one event.
The rules check the URL for various keywords and trigger the event on a match.
The event will check the content of the page for matching articles and present them on the 404 page.
You can also redirect your customers or adress them in a custom message.
Click the 'new ruleset' button to create a new ruleset.
This first part is selfexplanatory. Just type in the name. It will only be visible in your personal overview.
Clicking 'next' brings you to the following.
You can now add a 'rule'. You can create and add new rules later via the 'add rule' button.
Enter your URL search string, this keyword will be saved as rule and Smart 404 will check the URL the customer followed your shop to for that keyword. As soon as this keyword is found the 'event' will be triggered.
Next choose an 'event' in the drop-down menu.
'Product search' allows you to search the pages products, tags and titles for a keyword and display the results directly on the 404 page.
Your other options are either to adress your customers with a 'custom message' or to 'redirect' your customers to any URL.
When you enter a Product search string Smart 404 will search the pages products, paths and titles for that keyword and display the results.
The number you enter as "maximum product count" will determine how many resulting products will be shown on the 404 page
You can also add an additional comment, like a link or an introducing sentence!
Instead you could also enter a 'custom message' which is then displayed on your smart 404 page.
Your last option is to 'redirect'. Choosing this will send your customers to any URL you like, may it be your shops home or anything else.
Thats it! Click on save event and the creation of your first ruleset is completed!
Create a fallback
To create a new fallback click on the 'new fallback' button on the top right corner of your personal overview.
Choose a name. The name will be displayed when the fallback sets in. You should explain your customers what is happening to them.
After choosing the fallback name you can decide in which way the event shall be executed. You can switch between the three following options in the drop-down menu.
